How we rank

This page explains what decides the order in which Scoopt shows products, prices and shops, with the factors that count most listed first. We describe the factors, not the exact calculations behind them. One rule runs through all of it: how much a shop pays us plays no part.

What can be shown at all

• A price is only shown while a shop has confirmed it in the last 48 hours. A product whose prices have all gone out of date is hidden until a current price comes back.
• Some products come with details but no price yet. They can be shown, but in category lists always after products that have a price.
• We leave out products that don’t fit any of our categories, and we sometimes hide a product, or one shop’s offer for it, by hand. That is never because of what a shop pays us.
• Clothing that comes in several sizes is shown as one product.

Product lists in a category

The default order is Best match. Without a profile, Best match means:

1. products with a current in-stock price first;
2. then the lowest price first, which is the cheapest in-stock price we know of, delivery included;
3. then by name.

You can also sort by price from low to high, by price from high to low, or by name from A to Z. Filters such as brand, shop, delivery and price range only narrow down the list. They don’t change the order.

Personal ranking

If you’ve filled in your shopping profile and Use my preferences is on, Best match is ordered by how well each product fits you instead. That uses your answers (such as your budget and what matters most to you) and what you did on this device (such as products you opened). Products that fit equally well keep the normal order, cheapest first. Choosing another sort, or switching it off, shows the list without it. Every rule is listed on How ‘For you’ works.

Search

A product only appears if every word you typed is in its name, brand, type or size. Results are then ordered by how well they match, in this order of importance:

1. the brand matches what you typed. Some product names count for their brand: iPhone, iPad, MacBook, AirPods and AirTag for Apple, Galaxy for Samsung, and PlayStation for Sony;
2. the product name contains what you typed, starts with it, or has it as a whole word;
3. accessories and parts (such as cases, cables, chargers and batteries) move down, unless your search asks for one;
4. then how close the name is to your search, and then by name.

Search results don’t use your profile and aren’t ordered by price.

Prices on a product page

Shops that have the product in stock come first, then the lowest price including delivery, then by shop name. An out-of-stock offer is never marked as the cheapest. Each price shows when we last checked it.

Smart Basket

The Smart Basket compares buying everything at one shop with buying each item where it’s cheapest, counting each shop’s delivery costs. It recommends whichever is cheaper overall.

The home page

Today’s best deals for you are picked from tech, home and sport, in two price bands for each (up to €60, and over €60), and only products with a current price. In the Recommended order they stay in the order they were picked: by category and price band, cheapest first within each. This list doesn’t use your profile. You can sort it by price or name instead.

Latest price changes and new products share the section half and half, taking turns. Price changes are newest first, and only count when a shop’s price, delivery included, differs from that same shop’s previous price for the same product. We don’t keep eBay price history, so eBay price changes aren’t shown. New products are those a shop first listed in the last 30 days, newest first.

Articles are shown newest first.

How we earn money, and what it doesn’t change

Scoopt earns a commission from some shops when you buy through our links, at no extra cost to you. Commission is not part of any of the orders above: how much a shop pays us doesn’t change the order of products, prices, search results or basket recommendations. No shop can pay to be placed higher. If we ever show paid placements, they will be clearly labelled as sponsored.

We don’t use customer reviews or ratings in any ranking.
